I am unashamedly an adult who still believes in “once upon a time.” Those four little words are the gateway to the world’s greatest adventures and stories. It begs the reader to ask questions about where they are going even before any details are given. I’m not looking to escape my own world or searching for something different; I believe in “once upon a time” because I believe in the curious.
As a designer, I live in the world of the curious, because I believe design lives in the world of the curious.
My creative intention is to make other people curious. I want people to look at my work like a child looks at the world: full of wonder and with an eagerness to learn, even if they don’t know it. The best question kids ask is “why.” How can a simple question throw adults off every single time it is asked? Because they don’t actually have an answer beyond the obvious solution.
Designers have a unique opportunity to change the way people look at the world, if they ask the right questions. I design with the intention of encouraging people to be more curious; to ask more questions, because it leads to better solutions that ultimately change the way the world works.
Design is curious, so why shouldn’t I be?
